Things to Do, See, and Eat at Lake Pleasant

Lake Pleasant AZLake Pleasant is located in Lake Pleasant Regional Park, is just 35 miles northwest of Phoenix. The clear waters of the 10,000-acre lake reach an average depth of 70 feet. It is known for fishing and water sports, including scuba diving and parasailing. However, beyond the 114 miles of shoreline, the park also includes 23,000 acres of impressive mountain desert landscape with areas for camping and trails for hiking and mountain biking. One trail leads to Indian Mesa and the 1,000-year-old ruins of a village built by the Hohokam Pueblo Indians. The Desert Outdoor Learning Center offers information about the history of the area, about the surrounding desert, and about its wildlife, including bald eagles, wild burros, Arizona bobcats, and scorpions. The types of wildlife you can catch while fishing include largemouth bass, white bass, and striped bass.

Water Sports and Marinas

Lake Pleasant AZ offers two marinas, the Scorpion Bay Marina and the Pleasant Harbor Marina and RV resort. Both marinas offer boat rentals, covered and uncovered boat slips, fueling docks, and delis and convenience stores where you can buy snacks and boating and fishing supplies. Among the boats available for rent are powerboats, fishing boats, runabouts, kayaks, houseboats, and pontoon boats. You should find one that suits your needs, whether you want to water ski, parasail, fish, explore, or just float and relax. You can also rent wakeboards, kneeboards, and water skis. Scorpion Bay Marina offers tube rentals while Pleasant Harbor offers stand up paddle boards.

Scorpion Bay is a floating community with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and desert. Dillion’s Scorpion Bay BBQ Restaurant and Bar is a dockside star. The menu, which will make you hungry as you read it, includes appetizers, salads, BBQ platters, sandwiches, and desserts. The restaurant offers catering and also stocks the convenience store and deli, so you can gather their scrumptious food into your galley.

Pleasant Harbor Marina and RV Resort offers dry storage for boats and boat repairs. The newly renovated Waterfront Grille and Bar offers live entertainment and is available for special events. The Azul boutique features fashionable swimwear and lounge wear; you can dazzle whether you are on the water or on the Waterfront Grille’s dance floor. The Go Sail Arizona — Sailing School is also located at this marina. The RV Resort includes 254 spaces with full hookups, 40 spaces with partial hookups, bathrooms, showers, laundry facilities, a barbecue area, and a clubhouse. Tent-camping sites are also available.

Hiking, Mountain Biking, Dirt Biking, and Gliding

In addition to water sports, Lake Pleasant AZ has attracted a dirt bike racetrack and a gliding airport and school. For hikers and mountain bikers, the park features the Pipeline Canyon Trail Park. Park admission is required for this trail but not for the Indian Mesa trail.

Because the Hohokam village was built to be easily defended, the trail to it is difficult. Once a canal built by the Hohokam Pueblo, the trail is a three-mile long, steep, narrow path over rocky terrain with a climb up to 400 feet and a dangerous 100 foot drop. However, along with the ruins, you will find Indian petroglyphs carved into the mesa.
